WHY NOT WEAR WHITE GLOVES?

There is certainly a hint of vintage inherent in our handbag brand…I’m not afraid to say I have a steady dose of traditional in my style genes.  In a perfect House of TFD there is a sublime balance between old and new, rough and refined, traditional and contemporary.  This is labeled TRANSITIONAL in the interior design world, and this is where I live.  When it comes to fashion styling, there’s no denying my love of vintage, but it too has to be well balanced in order to not look like Grandma on a bad day.  In my mother’s era there was a much more formal approach to every day fashion, and this is especially true when you live and breathe the relaxed, sundrenched, flip flop SoCal lifestyle.  I happen to own stacks of brand new beaded and studded formal white gloves that Mom left behind… which probably sat in her closet for the better part of a quarter century.  Pristine in their original packaging, I’ve admired them from a far for years – feeling they had no place in my curated closet, but at the same time, just not able to part with them.  When our 46th President was inaugurated this week in the midst of the current COVID crisis (among others), I decided to get dressed up in red, white, and blue to watch it from my sofa.  (I have NEVER been moved to express this form of patriotism before. I mean, really…wearing red,  white, and blue?) When the stack of gloves caught my eye I decided it was prime time to finally give some white gloves a moment of glory.  Feelin’ the formality of our Nation’s Capitol event, balling my eyes out to the words of Amanda Gorman, and breathing sighs of relief and gratitude for the healing energy Joe was spouting, I decided right then and there that the White Gloves are here to stay.
