Similar to pieces in my closet, there are some home décor pieces I’ve inherited from my mother that I wouldn’t necessarily have chosen, but because they’ve been around for as long as I can remember, I just can’t imagine parting with them. This pair of lamps is one such example. I remember exactly where they were in each home I lived in growing up. Their traditional English Rose ceramic base is a classic blue and white palette, which can certainly and easily work well in any transitional room. A simple, clean, modern lampshade in bright white can easily refresh an older lamp base with potential. A drum shade (versus a shade that graduates and is wider at the bottom) was what I wanted for this pair, so I set out to find the perfect shade online, which actually proved more difficult than I thought it would. I scrolled through endless pages of shades on LampsPlus.com, but to find the width I wanted plus the height I wanted wasn’t happening. I then put one of the lamp bases in my car and went into a physical Lamps Plus location, and still no luck. They told me about another store right down the street that can do more custom shades, and I’m so glad they did. This small Mom and Pop shop serves the design community here in San Diego and does more specialized, custom work. Turns out they had exactly what I wanted, and I’m so glad that I got to support another local small business in the process of updating my classic heirloom antique lamps!
